Jesse and I told Kimmy she didn’t need to feel like she was hosting me. I was there to bring a piece of home to her and be with her for her birthday week.
(I don’t care where in the world they are. If I can be there on a special day for them, I will be.)
At times she wanted to go hang out with friends. I just asked that she let me know when those times were so I knew I wasn’t expected for anything.
I love me some downtime to read and chill. So that’s what I did. For a few hours on her birthday, her friends wanted to celebrate her.

She hasn’t celebrated her entire birthday with me or family in a few years now. She would get presents in the morning. Take off for brunches and lunches with friends then come home for birthday dinner and cake. So I had no expectations for her birthday other than dinner that night.
