Party Culture

At school, Kimmy quickly noticed which kids had no freedom at home before they came to college. These kids started going wild with the newfound freedom.

Most of the kids who are going crazy are the international students—staying up until 4am partying. She asked someone a few days ago: if she went with them, could they leave around midnight? She was told, “No, we can’t do that.” So she didn’t go.

She said some of those international students stay out until 4am. Then come back and go to school looking totally fine. Their hair is perfect. Looking like nothing happened.

Kimmy was like, “If I did that, I would look like a train wreck.”

Ok, rewind - When Kimmy got to school and learned this from the students, she told me and asked what I thought. I told her that she needed a “ride or die,” someone she trusted with her life. Until she found someone like that, I suggested she not go.

Fast forward- she says she hasn’t gone out. She’s also been sick, in class, cooking meals for herself, and hasn’t had much time.

She’s made two friends so far. Both are Chinese students. She’s said she doesn’t want to associate with many of the international students. Some of them have even brought people back to their dorms and messed around with a Chinese student trying to sleep in the same dorm room. 😳😨😱 A lot of the Chinese students don’t like the international student because of this.

I can’t even begin to imagine how uncomfortable that would be. Ick

With all that said. Kimmy has such a good head on her shoulders. She says she’s nonchalant and doesn’t even care to go out. It’s too much work. She hangs around campus and goes to events and socials there.

This girl has had so much freedom her entire life. (My kids tell me I am a pretty hands-off parent.) She says she’s struggling more with the lack of freedom she feels there. She doesn’t like not having a car and the ability to drive around and explore on her own. She doesn’t like that she doesn’t have a basic understanding of the language, yet. All of that makes her feel more stuck on campus than at home. 🀷🏻‍♀️
